The Kindness Project (TKP) is a nonprofit organization providing free resources to registered foster families & youth throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding counties across eastern PA. Through our foster care boutique, The Kindness Exchange (Emmaus), TKP provides free clothing, shoes, car seats, beds, baby items, hygiene items, and other essentials to youth placed in foster care. We are expanding our offerings to include enrichment in sports, music, art, tutoring, family events and support groups through our Kindness Connections Program. Our goal is to provide support and kindness to kids and teens experiencing a foster care journey.
Job Summary:
The Volunteer & Boutique Manager at The Kindness Project (TKP) is responsible for overseeing volunteer coordination and ensuring the smooth operation of The Kindness Exchange (Boutique). This role involves managing the boutique floor, maintaining inventory, ensuring quality control, recruiting and onboarding volunteers, leading onsite volunteer projects with both internal and external groups, and developing strategies for both volunteer and boutique efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Coordination:
- Lead volunteer recruitment, training, oversight, and scheduling to ensure a positive experience and adequate coverage, while assisting the Director of Operations & Engagement (DOE) in creating volunteer training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Oversee volunteer committees, assisting with scheduling and attending meetings and creating agendas.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and recognition to volunteers, fostering volunteer sustainability and retention. Conduct regular evaluations and feedback sessions to assess volunteer performance and satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and data collection for monthly board meetings, TKP Annual Report and grant applications.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director (ED), DOE, and the marketing and communications team to develop comprehensive volunteer recruitment materials and strategies.
- Coordinate and work with external volunteer groups on various projects, as needed. Participate in Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley training sessions and utilize their resources to expand TKP’s volunteer base.
Boutique Operations
- Manage daily operations at The Kindness Exchange in Emmaus, PA, including:
- Regular quality control of clothing racks, shoes, and other items
- Managing the biannual transition of seasonal clothing
- Monitor inventory levels, ensuring low stock is noted and overstock is managed in an organized manner - working with staff and board members to collaborate on the most efficient system for the barn and sorting room
- Coordinate donation drives and general donor relations pertaining to tangible goods
- Maintain a clean and uncluttered environment
- Maintain the gift card distribution sheet and keeping gift cards organized and secure
- Assist the ED in updating the Amazon Wish List and TKP website needs page
- Create a positive and welcoming environment for youth and resource families
- Create lists of tasks for volunteers scheduled for weekend shifts. (Weekend To-Do List by
Friday)
- Work with volunteer teams during open hours (including weekends) to sustain an orderly and functional environment for visiting families and donors
Qualifications:
- Degree in Business Management, Retail Merchandising or related field a plus
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient in Google Suite/Workspace, Zoom, Canva
- Experience with social media and Salesforce (CRMs) a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and procedures
- Experience in retail management
- Volunteer coordination or general management experience highly preferred

Time Commitment:
- Up to 40 hours per week with openness to flexible and changing schedules
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment for administrative tasks
Work Setting:
- Primarily based at The Kindness Exchange in Emmaus, PA
- Some remote work involved
- Occasional off-site events or meetings
